URGENT CARE
CMES
The number one reason why we offer
this course to Urgent Care physicians is so that you have in
your direct recall, the pearls of clinical wisdom that our
specialists will share with you. As an urgent care physician
our greatest fear is that a patient who sought our care for what
they thought was an innocuous (non-serious) condition, actually
turns out to be a serious medical condition. If we miss
diagnosing this type of patient we are legally very exposed. It
is then of paramount importance for us to have a current and up
to date knowledge of the most common life threatening
conditions. If you regularly attend PearlsMED events, you will
not miss any more serious life threatening conditions.
Who is this best suited for? This CME
event is best suited for urgent care physicians because you will
hear from the subspecialist: cardiologist, pulmonologist,
radiologist, orthopedist, dermatologist, gynecologist, urologist,
all of the subspecialties will be represented as you attend
PearlsMED events over the next few years.
The 3 biggest mistakes made my urgent
care physicians.
1. Missing an abnormality in the CBC.
Frequently, we see patients who require basic lab tests. In our urgent
care centers we do not have access to the specialist who can help us
identify the problems we may encounter in interpreting an abnormal
CBC. PearlsMED speakers will keep you abreast of the findings you
may encounter and how to manage a patient with an abnormal CBC.
2. Incorrectly interpreting
an EKG. In the urgent care we see many patients with chest pain.
And we will order and EKG on most of these patients. Without an
active knowledge of EKG interpretation, we can get behind in our
interpretive skills and blindly trust the computerized readout from
the EKG machine. This leads to mistakes in management. These
machines do not replace the interpretive skills of a physician. We
are held to the standard of being able to interpret an EKG as a
cardiologist would. Therefore it is imperative to keep these skills
current. Our PearlsMED cardiologists will ensure you are not only
able to read a basic EKG, but that you will be able to identify rare
and abnormal rhythms which require ardent care.
3. Misdiagnosing and
treating the patient with a potentially serious pulmonary
infection. Many of the patients we see with respiratory infections
have self-limiting illnesses. However a certain percentage have
illness of viral, bacterial or fungal origin that is of a much more
serious nature. In order to properly manage these patients we need
to keep up to date on our knowledge of pulmonary medicine.
PearlsMED speakers will ensure that you are aware of the latest
advances in the diagnosis and management of the most common life
threatening illnesses and any rare life threatening pulmonary
infections which you may encounter in the urgent care setting.
